Sanctuary of the Madonna del Lussari, a place where tradition tells of an apparition of the Madonna. Time. Venzone national monument.Cividale, founded by Julius Caesar with the name of Forum Iulii, from which comes the name Friul. National Sanctuary of Maria Madre and Regina, in Trieste, Sanctuary of Barbana in Grado, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Aquileia. The church of Sant’Antonio Abate in San Daniele del Friuli.
PROGRAM
1st day – Udine
Arrival of the group in Udine in the early afternoon, guided tour of the city with its squares with Venetian charm and ancient buildings: from Libertà Square, called “the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland”, in Matteotti Square (or of Herbs). Udine in the eighteenth century was the city of Giambattista Tiepolo who here reached his artistic maturity. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
2nd day Udine – exc. Lussari – Venzone – Cividale
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for Tarvisio / Camporosso. Ascent with cableway to Mount Lussari to the suggestive Sanctuary of the Madonna del Lussari, a place where tradition tells of an apparition of the Madonna. Time for liturgical devotions and for visiting the village and the sanctuary. Lunch in a restaurant. Afternoon free visit to Venzone, the ancient town razed to the ground by the earthquake of 1976 and rebuilt as it was in the Middle Ages. Declared a national monument, and today the most beautiful village in Italy. Then stop in Cividale, founded by Julius Caesar with the name of Forum Iulii, from which comes the name Friuli, became the seat of the first Lombard duchy in Italy. Guided tour of the Lombard Tempietto. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight
3rd day Udine – exc. Miramare – Trieste – Grisa Mountain
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for the Castle of Miramare surrounded by a lush park full of precious botanical species, enjoys an enchanting panoramic position, overlooking the sea and the tip of the promontory of Grignano. Wanted by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg to live there with his wife Carlotta of Belgium. Visit with audio guide service and continuation along the coast for the guided tour of Trieste with Borgo Teresiano, the Banks, Unità d’Italia Square, the port, the Roman Theater, the S. Giusto hill and the Cathedral. Lunch in a restaurant along the banks. In the afternoon, return trip with a stop at the National Sanctuary to Mary Mother and Queen, a Catholic church, placed at the altitude of 330 meters on Mount Grisa, from where you have a spectacular view of the city and the gulf. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight
4th day Udine – exc. Barbana – Grado – Aquileia
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for Grado, boarding with boat and navigation to reach the islet, located inside the lagoon of Grado, on which stands a sanctuary of ancient origins: the Sanctuary of Barbana. Time for liturgical devotions and for lunch. Return to Grado, guided tour of the “old town” with the early Christian buildings of the Church of Santa Eufemia, the attached octagonal Baptistery, the Lapidarium and the Church of Santa Maria della Grazie. Then continue to Aquileia, considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, guided tour of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta where you can admire the famous early Christian mosaics (IV century). Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight
5th day Udine – San Daniele – Spilimbergo – Venice
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for San Daniele: a center of suggestive beauty, located on the Friuli Hills and known over the world for the production of a ham with an inimitable flavor. Visit of the village and tasting of ham. Transfer to Spilimbergo, one of the most beautiful and interesting art cities of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a village of ancient origins that developed especially during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Visit of the prestigious Friuli Mosaic School. At the end departure for your locality of origin.
