EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL ITINERARY OFFER
autumn 2020 / spring 2021
The ponca, the soil of marl and sandstone that made Collio famous all over the world for the minerality it gives to its wines, tragically proved perfect during the First World War, also for the excavation of the trenches, which totally changed the morphology of the small village of Oslavia, just outside Gorizia. Nothing was left of what was before the Great War: the bloody twelve battles on the Isonzo of 1916/1917 razed everything, including the terraces planted with vines and it is no coincidence that the oldest vineyard in Oslavia dates back to 1922. Since 1938 stands at the entrance to the Ossuary of Oslavia where the remains of nearly sixty thousand soldiers are kept. Continuing on this journey in memory, students reach Mount Calvary with the obelisk placed on top and the tomb of the Trieste writer Scipio Slataper; the imposing Redipuglia Shrine, the open-air museum of San Michele and San Martino del Carso, made famous by the famous poems of the poet / soldier Giuseppe Ungaretti. Just beyond the border with Slovenia the boys will meet the Peace Park of Monte Sabotino, where it will be possible to see up close the system of trenches and tunnels of the two opposing sides.
