The Giant Cave, the largest tourist cave in the world. The Risiera di San Sabba, the only Nazi concentration camp in Italy. Trieste and its temples: the Church of San Spiridione, the Serbian Orthodox Temple; the Church of San Nicolò, the Greek Orthodox temple, the Synagogue, the Jewish temple among the largest in Europe. The historic cafés, the places of the Trieste protagonists of Italian irredentism, and the literary cafés frequented by the poet Umberto Saba, and the writers Italo Svevo and James Joyce. PROGRAM
1st day: TRIESTE historic center – GIANT CAVE
Arrival in Trieste in the morning. Meeting with the guide for a guided tour of the Hapsburg, Roman and medieval center of Trieste up to climb the Colle di San Giusto with a visit to the castle and the cathedral of San Giusto. You will take a cultural walk, visiting the main historical and cultural points of interest of the Habsburg city, and will focus on the literary, historical, artistic or multi-religious topic. Our highly specialized guides in the history of Trieste will make you discover the charm of the city with anecdotes and explanations that will thrill the kids. Packed lunch In the early afternoon we will move to Borgo Grotta to visit the fascinating Grotta Gigante, the largest tourist cavity in the world, where we will discover the incredible underground universe that is hidden in the karst caves.Dinner and overnight.
2nd day: TRIESTE CITTA ‘DELLA SCIENZA – CASTLE OF MIRAMARE – MUGGIA
Science day. Trieste the city of science between research and innovation, European Capital of Science 2020. Visit to the Scientific Imaginary, you will have the opportunity to visit the scientific park to discover the laws that regulate nature, following thematic routes, and you will follow a visit to the planetarium Cosmo, where you can observe the constellations. After the Scientific Imagery, a visit will be made to the nearby Miramare Castle, which preserves the original furnishings and decorations of the time intact. Packed lunch. In the afternoon: Trieste seen from the sea. The ship Delfino Verde will take you to Muggia, a small town located on the other side of the Trieste Gulf. Last and only Istrian strip in Italian territory with marked characteristics of Venetian culture, Muggia still maintains many traces of its antiquity today. Guided tour of the town. Dinner and overnight.
3rd day: DINOSAURO ANTONIO – DUINO CASTLE
Morning dedicated to the visit to the Paleontological site of the Fisherman’s Village, where in 1994 the complete skeleton of a perfectly preserved dinosaur was brought to light. Almost 1 meter tall and 4 meters long, weighing 700 kg, it is the most complete medium-large dinosaur ever found in Europe since 1878. The nicely christened dinosaur Antonio lived about 70 million years ago. Duino where you can visit the castle of Duino and the bunker of the second world war. 18 rooms, full of evidence of the centennial history of the Princes of the Torre and Tasso and their ancestors. Throughout the eighteenth century it was one of the best known cultural and humanistic centers of Central Europe. At the end of the trip, return to your locality of origin.
