Trekking - Anello Alta Via Di Forni

period: Summer – Autumn 2020

4 nights/ 5 days

Five days across the marvelous and solitary mountain ranges of Monfalconi, Cridola and Clap Savon, sleeping in refuges or Alpine huts at the foot of the Dolomite peaks. A circular trail, similar to a flower. You can choose the petals you wish to discover, according to how long and how difficult you want the hiking to be. This circular trail across high Alpine landscape in the beautiful Forni di Sopra valley offers you a rich variety of plants, flowers, and geological environments. It allows you to choose which way suits you best, according to the trial difficulty or length. You can stop at any time, with no problem to reach your car. The following description is clockwise, but you can walk it the other way round giving you a chance for a different point of view. Starting and final point is the “Camping Tornerai”, in Forni di Sopra, Andrazza, or directly the city center.

PROGRAM

Day 1. Up to Flaiban Pacherini refuge, 1587m, across Val di Suola valley, directly in about 2 and a half hours, trail 362; or across Val Rovadia valley and Passo di Suola, trail 368 and 363, in about 5 hours. The direct trail to the refuge goes up the Suola valley introducing you to the typical Dolomite landscape in the Natural Park of Friulian Dolomites, with steep rock walls and long scree fields. The alternative and longest trail across Val Rovadia will lead you through enchanted alpine meadows, with hundreds of flowers and singing waterfalls, to Passo di Suola, 1994m. From here in about 30 minutes you can easily reach “Cima del Rifugio” summit at 2100m. On both tracks you’ll have the pleasure of observing alpine steinbocks at close range.
Day 2. From Flaiban Pacherini refuge to Giaf refuge, 1400m, across “Truoi dai Sclops”, trails 362-369-361, in about 6 hours. “Truoi dai Sclops” in local dialect means gentian path; this spectacular path is one of the most interesting for its continuously changing habitat. This trail leads over three high saddles (Urtisiel, Brica e dell’Inferno) among completely different alpine landscapes. The highlight is the fairy alpine meadow Canpuros, which becomes during summer an enchanted place where hundreds of different flowers bloom. At half way you’ll find Casera Valmenon where you can rest and enjoy some food and drink. In August, on this track takes place the famous competition called “Sky-Race delle Dolomiti Friulane”
Day 3. From Giaf refuge to Casera Tartoi refuge, 1711m, across Passo della Mauria, Lavazeit hut and Casera Varmost, trail 341-207-243, in about 6-7 hours. This extremely interesting path unfolds first across the wild and gravelly Dolomitic habitat of Tor mountains, and then in a completely different but not less wild habitat, on the South of the Alpi Carniche: a very long crossing from the lovely tabià in Stabie to the woods on the Purone stream, and then to the beautiful panoramic sight at the Casera Lavazeit. After Malga Varmost you will reach the mountain pastures of the historical Malga Tartoi, nestled in the magical amphitheater created by the Tiarfin mountain range.
Day 4.From Casera Tartoi refuge to Casera Tragonia refuge across Forca Rossa, trail 208-224-209, in 5 hours. From Tartoi we’ll go around the Tiarfin Mountain, first crossing the “Agons”, where by snow melting appears a beautiful little lake with clear turquoise water. Along the way you can admire the blossom in the little “Busas di Tiarfin” valley, then you reach the “Forca Rossa” with its wide panoramic view from Alpi Carniche to the Dolomites and even the Austrian glaciers. On the other side of the Forca you will then go down the “Risumiela” saddle, and arrive in the historical Casera Tragonia
Day 5. From C.ra Tragonia refuge to Montemaggiore Alpine hut, then to Forni di Sopra-Andrazza, trail 211–210, in 4-5 hours. This is the historical Via delle malghe, Alpine hut path, in local dialect “Truoi da las mons”. You will go around Mount Lagna and cross the wet meadows of Plan di Plaron, 1839 m, where according to local legends the witches used to meet. Between pastures and rivers you’ll reach the old malga Montemaggiore and the nice shelter Francescutto, before descending to your starting point in Andrazza. It is also possible to end up the trekking climbing to the top of the beautiful and easy Clapsavon mountain, 2462 m, and of the nearby Bivera peak. You can start the ascent from Malga Montemaggiore or directly from Casera Tragonia.
