CASTELLO DI MUGGIA TRIESTE

Muggia was born in Roman times for the defense of the Via Flavia that connected the ancient Tergeste to Pola and during the Middle Ages the center developed around the port.

The Patriarch of Aquileia to whom the city had been entrusted, ordered the construction of the Castle in 1374 to put an end to the internal disputes between the Venetian and patriarchine factions. Over the years there were several struggles between the Venetians, the patriarchate of Aquileia, the archduke Maximilian I and Trieste for the conquest of Muggia and the Castle until 1700 remained the bulwark of military defense.

In 1900 it was bought and became a private house, and today the owners are the family of the sculptor Bossi who organizes cultural and musical events open to the public.
